DW Data WorkBench

Capability Data Sheet

One WorkBench. Many tools. Bring your own materials.

Local-first file inspection, cleanup, conversion, and proof.

Data WorkBench lets users load real local materials, inspect what is inside, edit where safe, export directly with optional details, and keep sensitive data in the browser.

1

Load

Open, drop, paste, or use retained samples.

2

Inspect

Explorer, table, image editor, metadata, and diagnostics.

3

Act

Edit, clean, convert, export, or guarded save-back.

4

Prove

Use Trust, Fidelity, Diagnostics, and receipts.

OK

Data stays in the browser

  • Local files are read through browser file APIs.
  • Pasted text and samples stay in the browser session.
  • Graphics preview, crop, resize, clean-copy export, and conversion run locally.
!

No hidden payment with information

  • No upload, retention, backend processing, accounts, or live connectors in the current WorkBench.
  • Graphics use export-copy boundaries; workbooks use export-only boundaries.
  • No claim that free means users trade privacy for access.

Known File Types

Known-type mode filters to supported extensions; Allow any is an explicit escape hatch.

DW Structured Data Tools

Inspect. Edit. Convert. Prove.

JSON / JSONL

  • Explorer tree, selected path, search, go-to-path, copy path/value.
  • Primitive edit, child insert, duplicate, rename key, delete value.
  • Duplicate-key, escaping, Unicode, and representation diagnostics.

CSV / TSV / OtherSV

  • Table preview, cell editing, changed-cell markers, delimiter controls.
  • Header ambiguity, formula-like text, uneven rows, and delimiter mismatch warnings.
  • Export with comma, tab, pipe, semicolon, caret, or tilde style rules.

XML / WSDL

  • Browser-native XML parse diagnostics and raw XML editing.
  • Tree and Explorer visibility for elements, attributes, namespaces, comments, and CDATA.
  • Mixed content and entity warnings; WSDL detected as XML, not executed.

Workbook Handling

Sheet-aware review for Excel-style workbooks, with export-only guardrails.

  • Supports `.xls`, `.xlsx`, `.xlsm`, and `.xlsb` intake through browser SheetJS handling.
  • Creates separate source tabs for workbook sheets and links them in load history.
  • Flags formulas, stored/display value differences, hidden rows or columns, and merged ranges.
  • Workbook tabs are export-only; direct workbook overwrite is disabled.

Jigs For Repeatable Processing

Portable plans for repeating interpretation, export, and review decisions.

  • Capture source format, target format, include/exclude paths, rename rules, and validation notes.
  • Workbook Jigs capture sheet name, row bounds, header row, data start row, and column rules.
  • Jigs can be saved locally, exported as JSON, and imported later.
  • A Jig is a plan, not a guarantee; review details still matter.

Conversions And Export Details

Conversions export directly, with optional details because useful output is not always a lossless round trip.

Export target Current behavior Review boundary
JSON / JSONL Exports interpreted model or one JSON value per line. JSONL projection may need saved rules for operational semantics.
CSV / TSV / OtherSV Exports current interpreted rows with selected delimiter. Nested JSON, XML, and workbook data may be represented as rows, not original structure.
XML Creates a WorkBench export envelope. Not a semantic XML mapping unless future Jig rules define one.
XLSX Creates a one-sheet workbook from interpreted rows. Does not recreate formulas, styles, comments, macros, or workbook-specific metadata.
Code / Text Preserves code source text or emits readable text. No execution, linting, formatting, generation, or dependency analysis.

Save-back

Available only for JSON, XML, text, CSV, TSV, and OtherSV when a writable browser file handle exists.

Fidelity

Shows parse state, repair refusal, representation changes, character warnings, export risk, and receipt history.

Trust

Summarizes diagnostics, changes, source context, save-back boundary, and review-before-export reasons.

Structured workflows are local and review-useful; they are not production parser certification. 2 / 3
DW Graphics, Proof, And Boundaries

Images stay images

Graphics get their own workflow.

The WorkBench routes images to Editor, Metadata, Clean, Jigs, Export, Trust, and Diagnostics instead of pretending graphics are tables.

SVGWebPPNGJPEGGIFBMPICOAVIF

Editor

  • Local preview with crop boundary guides.
  • Numeric crop fields, resize dimensions, aspect lock, format choice, and quality.
  • Canvas export for browser-decodable bitmap sources.

Metadata + Clean

  • Reports JPEG, PNG, WebP, and SVG metadata/provenance signals.
  • Creates verified clean copies for supported JPEG, PNG, and WebP containers.
  • Uses sanitized SVG export and metadata reports where appropriate.

Graphics Jigs

  • Capture normalized crop, resize rule, output format, quality, metadata policy, and receipt policy.
  • Save, export, and import operation templates.
  • Repeat the process without hiding review.

Graphics Export Targets

Image export is image-to-image or proof/report output. No image-to-CSV fiction.

SVG Sanitized SVG or metadata report.
Bitmap sources Verified clean copy, PNG, JPEG, WebP, or metadata report.
Limited decode Falls back to metadata report instead of claiming unsupported cleanup.

Receipt Proof

Output copies carry visible review evidence.

Boundarynot anonymity

Current boundaries: no upload, no retained files, no server-side image processing, graphics export-copy only, workbook export-only, no live connectors, no C2PA rewriting/signing, no full MakerNote editing, no full anonymization, and no forensic-cleaning claim.

Best fit today

Local review, cleanup, conversion, export, and proof for operational data and image assets where visibility matters.

Not pretending

The current WorkBench is partial and review-useful, not a production parser/converter platform or compliance certification engine.
